Habitat for Humanity: Brockett Family Edition

HabitatforHumanity

The Brockett Family are moving into their Home from The Heroes for Humanity Build. The Heroes Build are supported by the past and current members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Legion, RCMP, London Fire Department, London Police Services, London Police Association, EMS and citizens of the community.

Habitat for Humanity Brockett FamilyErin and Charles Brockett home will be sponsored by General Dynamics Land Systems. “GDLS-Canada is very pleased to support the Heroes for Humanity Habitat build.

In partnering with Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario, and through our commitment to provide 10 teams of 10 volunteers each we are looking forward to working alongside Canadian heroes to provide affordable housing for the Brockett family”, said Doug Wilson-Hodge Manager – Corporate Affairs, General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada.

Erin and Charles have two children; Peridaen and Alice with another one on the way! Erin drives a school bus, which she loves doing and Charles works as a forklift operator at Liberty Freezers.

Their family fell on hard times when Charles was laid off when his employer, CEVA lost a contract. They were living in a small townhouse with mold growing on the walls of the bathroom, and the master bedroom. The mold had made Charles and his family constantly sick. A friend of Erin’s advised to look into applying for a home through Habitat for Humanity and were eventually approved.

Habitat for Humanity Brockett Family“We are well aware that our freedom, our safety, and security do not come lightly or easily. We are deeply grateful and very humbled by this experience.

Words just don’t remotely give us a way to say how we feel about this opportunity or the build. The meaning goes very deeply and we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts.”

The Brockett Family now has a back yard for her growing family to safely play and not have to worry about the children getting sick due to mold. They do not have to worry about being able to pay rent and can focus on their family in a happy and healthier situation.

This is our second build for 2015 and is excited to see a growing family living a healthier life. We are honoured to have been a part of the Heroes for Humanity Build and look forward to working together in the future.
