Rotten Fascia Boards
Rotten Fascia Boards can be a silent killer to your home, but do you know what are they and what they do? The Fascia is the portion of your exterior trim where your gutters (eavestroughs) are usually attached to.
The Fascia Boards are there to help prevent moisture and hold up your gutters. The main reason for rotting is due to water exposure. This can be caused by clogged or inefficient gutters.
Drip edge is normally installed along with your gutters as an added protection for your soffit, fascia, and gutters. It is an L-shaped piece of metal that is nailed into the roof’s decking. A layer of the ice-and-water barrier is installed over the drip edge to ensure maximum protection. Gable ends are installed after this step to make sure that windblown rain will not damage the shingles, gutters, and fascia.
If you were to do your own inspection you would start in your attic. Head over to the corners and look for dampness or wet spots. They may even be a gap between the roof deck and fascia. That could mean animals may have burrowed in so make sure to look for feces or food left behind.
Most likely you will need a professional to inspect the area as there are many factors to consider and you may need to go on the roof for a closer look.
